Even though braces can perfect a smile at any age, there is an optimal window of time for beginning the process.

Tooth correction that is started during childhood guarantees the best results and the minimal amount of time and money spent.

The most common causes of misaligned teeth:

  • genetic reasons
  • improper eating habits
  • underdeveloped chewing mechanics, due to a lack of chewing
  • bad habits (thumb sucking, breathing out of the mouth, thrusting the tongue while swallowing)

Removable or fix braces?

Braces can differ based on their use and the age of the patient.

Whether we use removable or fix braces is not a matter of choice!

  • Removable braces usually influence the jawbone’s development, so they are ideal for young children
  • Later, when results are only expected from the realignment of individual teeth, permanent braces are the appropriate solution

In certain cases, correction must be started very young (3-5 years old) when the goal is primarily the free development of the jawbone.

During the mixed tooth period, when there are temporary teeth and permanent teeth, the goal is to direct tooth development in the right direction. During this age, we commonly use removable retainers.

How can you get used to braces?

This is also easier for children, and the acclamation period with some discomfort lasts 1-2 weeks. With permanent braces, the most common problem is usually chewing difficulty, and the braces can irritate the soft parts of the mouth. To solve this problem, wax can be used, but it is also a good idea to use antibacterial mouthwash.

How long are braces used?

Braces are usually on for 1-2 years and requires regular checkups and serious cooperation on the part of the child and parents. It is important to note that this is purely a transition period, and after the end of the treatment the teeth will be more beautiful and functional.

Leaving out this treatment not only hasaesthetic drawbacks; it can have other consequences as well (tooth decay, parodontal complications, speech and chewing impediments)
